Hello Everyone and Happy New Year.
Today I did my first photo trip to a favorite location of mine in order to try a few ideas regarding a self portrait project. So I packed my stuff + gear and drove around 50 km out of the city to this amazing beach with huge sand dunes just in time for the sunset.
Check out right after the jump how I took this shot and with what gear.
Once I arrived I set up my tripod in a very low position, pointing up, used Nikon’s D7000 Live View to get the frame right and once everything was set I switched to manual focus and used an aperture of 11 in order to have everything as sharp as possible.
Since the available light was too low I used an ISO of 1600 in order to have a relative fast shutter speed. Once everything looked OK I took place within the frame and used my Nikon Remote to take the shots. I set a 1 sec delay for each shot that was taken with the remote in order to have time to pose after pressing the remote shutter button.
I had the setting sun behind me so getting a silhouette out of me was a relative easy task since I exposured for the sky only.
I tried a few static shots and some others with motion blur as well but most of the times the results were not what I was looking for. After 20+ minutes though I began to warm up and I found a few stances + positions within the frame for me that I really liked so I got a few great keepers. You can see one of my favorites at the beginning of the post.
As the sun was setting and things were getting too dark I packed my gear and came back home.
In the following days I plan to visit again this place not only to capture the amazing sunset that happens there, but also try a few more ideas for this project of mine as well.
Below you will find a list of the gear I used.
- Nikon D7000
- Tokina 11-16 2.8
- Slik tripod with ballhead
- Nikon Remote control
Thanks for dropping by today and again I wish a Happy and super creative new year for all.
Stay safe and enjoy the heck out of it !
Cheers.
